Join us for a dive into the work of Wilfred Bion, with Nicola Abel-Hirsch, author of Bion: 365 Quotes (Routledge, 2019), and psychoanalyst Michael Brearley.

Bion: 365 Quotes is a carefully curated compilation of extracts from Bion’s writings, one for each day of the year, alongside reflections and commentary by Abel-Hirsch and other leading contemporary analysts. Designed to make Bion’s wide-ranging and often enigmatic body of work more accessible, it gives readers the space to unpack his complex, multi-layered ideas, one quote at a time.

At the event Abel-Hirsch and Brearley will draw on the book’s innovative format in exploring the scope and power of Bion’s complete works. It is hoped that the conversation, like the book, will open up new avenues into Bion’s work.

Nicola Abel-Hirsch is a training and supervising analyst of the British Psychoanalytical Society and works in private practice in London. From 2013 to 2015 she was visiting professor at the Centre for Psychoanalytic Studies, University of Essex. She has given clinical and theoretical papers and seminars on Bion in the UK, Europe, Taiwan and the USA, and written extensively on Bion’s work. She is the editor of Hanna Segal’s last book Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow (2007).

Michael Brearley is a Fellow and former President of the British Psychoanalytical Society. In his previous career he was 31-times captain of the England Test cricket team. He has a background in philosophy. Brearley has taught widely on psychoanalytic topics in the UK and abroad. His writings include The Art of Captaincy (1985) and On Form (2018).

The event will be chaired by psychoanalyst Susan Lawrence.

A few days after the event all attendees will receive a link to a recording of the webinar. It will be available to view for one month. Attendees will also receive a discount code for 25% off the book price.
