Almost exactly one hundred years ago, on 13 July 1919, Melanie Klein read the paper that led to her qualification as a psychoanalyst to the Hungarian psychoanalytical society in Budapest. July 2019 therefore marks the centenary of Klein becoming a psychoanalyst, and making the first steps in what became an exceptionally creative and influential career.

In her latest blog post, honorary archivist Jane Milton marks this milestone and unravels the mystery of Klein’s first published paper, recently translated from the original German into English for the first time by Sophie Leighton.
